October 2017 SABEA Newsletter

Fall is upon us.  Making Strides events are going on- join SABEA members at the Glens Falls event on October 29 at the Civic Center.

We are also having a Happy Hour at Common Roots in South Glens Falls on October 20-- come join us

Make sure that you all go and vote.  As you may have heard, this is the year that New York State voters are asked if they want to hold a Constitutional Convention.  Even though this may seem like a great idea, here are just a few reasons why a "NO" vote makes sense (and make sure to turn ballot over to find this proposition):

- the cost:  Each of the elected delegates will recieve approximately $80,000 for their efforts- regardless of how long they work for (and a year's credit in the retirement system)

- the delegates that are elected have traditionally been our current elected officials who could make changes without having a Convention

- If we hold a Convention and recommendations are made to the voters, these have been traditionally been voted down: much time and expense for no results.
